Welcome to Your BMC

Hello, and welcome to Your BMC.

You are an important part of our community, and we are here to help you be your healthiest self. As a part of your health journey, this newsletter features important information about services and programs, tips for healthy living, stories from around BMC, and more.

Quote from Andy Vo, Kidney Transplant donor
BMC-Voices

While working in Patient Financial Services, La'Davia decided to stop by a BMC health fair for a mammogram. A follow-up biopsy led to a diagnosis of an aggressive form of breast cancer. “If it wasn’t for that health fair, I don’t know if I’d be here today.”

After 16 rounds of chemo and five days a week of radiation for four months, La’Davia is cancer-free. She shares her story in hopes of motivating others to get a mammogram. “Early detection is very important with breast cancer, but even if it’s caught later, there are so many treatments available, and you can still fight it. PLEASE get your mammogram!”

Do you have questions about monkeypox?

We want to make sure you stay safe and healthy. Everyone six months and older should get their flu shot, especially those considered high-risk (i.e. pregnant women, chronic medical conditions, and children). Call your doctor to schedule a vaccination appointment, and you can get both your COVID-19 vaccine and a flu shot at the same time.

World Mental Health Awareness week was Oct 2-8. At BMC, we believe in a holistic approach to treating mental health and would like to introduce you our Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) team, who work throughout our outpatient clinics.

The team is a diverse group of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologists, and social workers who collaborate with primary and specialty care providers. Through IBH and other BMC programs, we focus on providing culturally sensitive care, training, and research.

BMC Goes Green at the White House

The first week of October celebrates Midwifery Week. BMC midwives strive to provide personalized, respectful, and nurturing care for each pregnant and laboring patient, including through our CenteringPregnancy® program.

"I loved Centering because it was very engaging… we’d go over all our questions. And I felt because of that, I was fully prepared. I had a whole team. It takes a village to have a baby. BMC was the village." - Lorenis Liriano,  CenteringPregnancy® program participant.

The week of October 16-22 we are celebrating our amazing pharmacists, technicians, interns, and pharmacy students for National Pharmacy Week. A very special thank you to the members who make up our pharmacy team!

Did you know that BMC has three retail pharmacies on campus for your convenience? These pharmacies can fill prescriptions, help you with your insurance, and connect you to our Patient Financial Services team if necessary. Other services include specialty pharmacy, mail order prescription services, online refills, multi-medication packaging, and more.
