Research Matters | Furthering Scientific Innovation
and Discovery

Volume 9  |  November 2023

Dear Research Community-

Happy November! We have just passed a big NIH grant submission deadline, so I know many folks, ourselves included, have been quite busy (nothing like those 4 a.m. or 11 p.m. writing sessions). We continue to have a lot going on, and want to say a special thanks to all who participated in a very successful speed mentoring event.

We are working on a comprehensive onboarding packet of information for new BMC researchers which should be live within the next few months. We also send our deepest appreciation to the Research Ops Advisory Committee that has been meeting monthly to help guide our policies and strategies.

This article looks at patients from racial and ethnic minority groups, those with lower socioeconomic status and compares their willingness to participate in ophthalmic clinical studies. Concordance of race and ethnicity between patients and research staff was associated with improved participant enrollment.
