Meet Javier, an employee of the research department in BMC’s Pediatric Infectious Diseases Department. When Javier’s sexual activity increased, he wanted to get tested for HIV but was worried that he would face stigma just for getting tested. He trusted the BMC STD Clinic to treat him with respect and keep his medical history safe and confidential.

“Those first few tests were the scariest thing. But it was even scarier to think I could be HIV-positive and not know,” Javier explained. Javier decided to share his story to encourage others to get tested.
