Finding Gratitude and Joy Despite Sickle Cell Disease Diagnosis
|
“Focus on the positives in your life — your family, friends, extracurriculars… it will help you see the bright side of things,” Nnamdi Izuchi shares as he reflects on advice he got as a child dealing with the symptoms of sickle cell disease (SCD). Nnamdi is in preparation for a bone marrow transplant, but his association with BMC dates back to before his birth. Ify, Nnamdi's mother, has served as a lab technician at BMC for over 25 years, and Nnamdi has been cared for by BMC’s Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease since he was a child. June 19 was National Sickle Cell Awareness Day, and to honor that, we are sharing Nnamdi’s story of hope and
strength.

Juneteenth: Celebrating Racial Justice and Equality
|
Juneteenth is a day of celebration, rest, and remembrance that honors the legal ending of slavery in the United States. It commemorates June 19th, 1865, when US Federal troops stormed Galveston, Texas, to free those still enslaved. At BMC, we were proud to be a part of some of the celebrations happening around the city this Juneteenth, and for the opportunity to share our dedication to health justice and equity, including providing innovative and personalized care for all, with our community.
