Thank you,
Tina DaSilva
Executive Director Research Operations

From the Desk of the CSO

Thanks to all for your warm welcome as I have started my CSO role. It has been incredibly helpful for me to learn about the work that you do and your commitment to advancing science, as well as areas of opportunity for us to grow and thrive as a scientific community.

To date, Tina and I have met with leadership from 24 departments/sections and had (or have scheduled) more than 82 meetings with investigators to build our strategic plan. Our research leadership and operations teams are working hard every day to move ahead some key priorities, with a focus on the following three domains

  1. Building a sustainable research infrastructure.

  2. Developing Centers of Emphasis, or cross-cutting areas where we believe that BMC can have outsized impact.

  3. Ensuring a supportive environment for our research faculty and staff.

Hopefully, everyone had the opportunity to see the bridge funding announcement; also, if you have not completed the Grants Connector spreadsheet and have successful grants that you would be willing to share, please do so. Also huge congratulations to Drs. Shana Burrowes, Cassandra Pierre and Angelique Harris for their successful proposal “Assessing and Addressing Implicit Bias within Healthcare-acquired Infections” and to Drs. Kelley Saia and Cecily Barber for their successful proposal “Naltrexone for the Treatment of Cannabis Use Disorder in Pregnancy.” Both pilot proposals, which were co-funded by BMC and the CTSI, offer the potential to have important impact on our patients. Again, thanks for your continued partnership in advancing science with and for our patients.

Thank you,
Megan H Bair-Merritt, MD, MSCE
