Food as Medicine: Celebrating the Opening of Nubian Markets

Recently, BMC celebrated the grand opening of Nubian Markets with Ismail Samad and Yusuf Yassin, BMC community partners and co-founders of the market. Nubian Markets, located at 2565 Washington Street in Roxbury's Nubian Square, is the realization of the vision for a Black-owned market, cafe, halal butchery, and community gathering space that is inspired by the food of the African diaspora and sourced through trade routes based in equity. We are proud to be a partner of Nubian Markets through a $1.9M zero-interest loan and other philanthropic support, and we're excited to work together to continue to improve the wellness of our communities.

Please help us support the Nubian Markets by paying them a visit and shopping all of their wonderful foods and products!

Gender X Option Now Available

Patients who have changed their legal gender to “X” on their birth certificate or driver’s license are now able to list “X” as their legal gender in their BMC medical record as well. This change was made to further support all of our patients, regardless of their gender identity. New patients can choose X as their gender when registering. Existing patients can make this change by:

  • Requesting the change through MyChart

  • Visiting Health Information Management (HIM, or Medical Records) in the Yawkey basement and providing legal documentation, such as a passport, Social Security card, or driver’s license, supporting their legal gender as X
