BMC's Biggest Moments During Kate Walsh's 13 Years of Leadership

Boston Medical Center has always embodied a mission of compassion, innovation, and health equity. For 13 years, Kate Walsh has helped us further this mission as CEO, with the goal of improving the lives of those in our community. From championing equitable care to building a more sustainable campus, we’ve accomplished so much — and we know there is more work to do. We are excited for Kate's future as she moves on to join Governor Healey's cabinet as the Secretary of Health and Human Services and are sharing some of BMC’s biggest accomplishments and proudest moments from the past 13 years.

Innovation in Treatment for Oral Cancers

For patients with tumors of the jaw, mouth, and face, BMC's Oral Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Oncology Program offers a complete range of care — including jaw reconstruction and dental prosthetics — not available anywhere else in New England. Our team also offers an innovative same day jaw replacement procedure, available at only a handful of practices around the country. From diagnosis and treatment through jaw reconstruction, our specialized team works together to maximize our patients’ quality of life after treatment.

BMC Voices: Stephen Murray Challenges the RMV to Support Recovery

“If I can change one person’s mind that we should be encouraging people to carry Narcan, it’s worth it.” - BMC's Stephen Murray, MPH, NRP

Stephen, one of BMC’s addiction researchers who is in recovery himself, applied for a vanity license plate reading “NARCAN,” the brand name for naloxone, a life-saving drug that can reverse opioid overdose. After the RMV denied his request, he took the fight to social media. Thank you, Stpehen, for challenging taboos and spreading awareness of naloxone’s benefits.

If you or someone you know is dealing with addiction, you can call our hotline at 617-638-5500 to make an appointment or learn more about addiction services available at BMC. You can also learn more about our substance use programs and services on the Grayken Center website

February is Black History Month

This Black History Month, we want to take a moment to share what the month means to some members of our community. Thoughts of gratitude, resilience, perseverance, and excellence ring true through their sentiments. We invite you to celebrate with us by reading their perspectives, like that of Tracey Weeden, Executive Director of our Brockton Behavioral Health Center.

"Celebrate contemporary Black excellence by living your authentic truth. Embrace the pride that BHM represents and continue to pay it forward by lifting up others," Weeden says.

Salute to Nurses 2023

This year is the 20th anniversary of The Boston Globe’s Salute to Nurses special section! We are incredibly proud of our Magnet® recognized BMC nurses. We invite patients and their families to submit a letter nominating a BMC nurse who’s made a positive impact on you or a family member within the past year.

Please note that all letters and names submitted may be used in The Boston Globe print and/or online edition.

Call Us for Urgent Care

Whether it’s a sore throat or a minor sprain, it’s best to avoid a visit to the Emergency Department. We have same or next day in-person and telehealth appointments available for Adult Primary Care, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, and Geriatrics patients. Call us first for minor illnesses and injuries like back pain, low-grade fever, minor allergic reaction, cough, cold, or earache — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or visit bmc.org/urgentcare. You can also send non-urgent messages with MyChart.
